Background
Staten Island Community Charter School (SICCS), Staten Island’s first K-8 public charter school, opened on September 13, 2010, with 100 students enrolled in three kindergarten classes and one first-grade class. In accordance with the SICCS charter, we plan to add two classes each year until we reach full enrollment as a K-8 school, with 450 students. Currently, we are accepting applications up to grade 4 for the 2013-2014 lottery.
How student applications are chosen
SICCS chooses student applications through an impartial lottery process in accordance with the New York State Charter Schools Act. Students on the SICCS wait-list will be assigned seats as vacancies occur. If your child has been accepted for admission through the lottery process, you will be informed at the lottery and by mail.
Who’s eligible?
Any child eligible to attend a New York City public school may apply for a seat at our school. Please note that SICCS gives preference to applications from children living in Community School District 31 (Staten Island).
All seats for kindergarten, first, second, third-grade classes for the 2012-13 academic year are filled, with a long waiting list of applicants for seats that may become available during the school year. If you’re a parent of an age-eligible child and would like to add his or her name to the waiting list, you’re welcome to do so. Applications for the 2013-14 school year will be accepted starting in January, 2013.
To be eligible to apply for the 2013-14 school year, your child must have been born in 2008 for kindergarten, in 2007 for first grade, in 2006 for second grade, in 2005 for third grade, and 2004 for fourth grade.
