Background

Staten Island Community Charter School (SICCS), Staten Island’s first K-8 public charter school, opened on September 13, 2010 with 100 students enrolled in three kindergarten classes and one first-grade class. In accordance with the SICCS charter, we plan to add two kindergarten classes each year, with 25 students each, until we reach full enrollment as a K-8 school, with 450 students.

How student applications are chosen

SICCS chooses student applications through an impartial lottery process, in accordance with the New York State Charter Schools Act. Students on the SICCS wait-list will be assigned seats as vacancies occur. If your child has been accepted for admission through the lottery process, you will be informed at the lottery and by mail.

Who’s eligible?

Any child eligible to attend a New York City public school may apply for a seat at our school. Please note that SICCS gives preference to applications from children living in Community School District 31 (Staten Island).

All seats for kindergarten, first- and second-grade classes for the 2011-12 academic year are filled, with a long waiting list of applicants for seats that may become available during the school year. If you’re a parent of an age-eligible child and would like to add his or her name to the waiting list, you’re welcome to do so. Applications for the 2012-13 school year will be accepted starting in January, 2012.

To be eligible to apply for the 2012-13 school year, your child must have been born in 2007 for kindergarten, in 2006 for first grade, and in 2005 for second grade.
