About Us

At Staten Island Community Charter School (SICCS), we believe with the right support, adequate time, and greater opportunities for learning, every child can succeed.

SICCS is a public charter school that’s community based, community focused and community run.  Our school was founded by parents, grandparents and educators from the area and is operated by a board of trustees — not a charter school management corporation. Many of our trustees, in fact, live in the same neighborhoods our students do.

We see each child as an individual with his or her own way of learning and we assess each child’s progress continuously. Our flexible staffing process allows us to assign grade and cluster teachers (in Art, Science or English As A Second Language, for example) according to the current needs of the students in that class.

More time to learn

Our longer school day gives each student more time to learn. And because we view the classroom as a dynamic environment, we remain alert for instructional opportunities as they occur throughout each school day.

At SICCS, parents, grandparents, foster parents and guardians are school partners who volunteer, contribute great ideas, and — as stipulated in our charter — have a permanent representative on the SICCS Board of Trustees. They work with us in school, at home, and in the community to help our students succeed.
